Roman silver coin struck under Domitian, featuring the portrait of the emperor on the obverse and, on the reverse, Minerva.
Under the reign of Domitian, Minerva became the most frequently represented deity on imperial coinage. As the emperor’s personal protectress, she is often depicted brandishing a spear and holding a shield, an iconography inspired by the Greek warrior Athena (Athena Promachos).
